When it comes to backdrops for photography they can either be very frustrating or they can add to your photo. Here are a few tips that will take your background from frustration to amazing!

1. There are two ways to rid your photography backdrop from wrinkles. One is to use canvas backdrops. The other way is to find a semi-permanent location for a muslin backdrop and steam it just  before using it. Still, a third option is to use seamless paper backdrops.

2. If you choose to use a muslin backdrop place your subjects about three feet away from the photographic backdrop in order to avoid seeing any small wrinkles that may still be there after steaming.

3. With high key backdrops such as muslin, don’t forget to light more than just the subject you are photographing. If this is not done, you will end up with a low-key lighting effect that could leave your photo looking dingy and not well done.

4. Seamless paper backdrops are not only versatile but also easy on the pocketbook.  They are also great when you are shooting a youthful or casual look photograph.

5. Poorly lit backdrops will always appear darker in the photograph than they do in person. Keep in mind this is not always a bad thing but will result in a more artist portrait that may not be exactly what you were going for.

6. Before you judge any new backdrop you purchase remember to hang it up and then view it through your camera lens. Then you can use your creativity as an artist to do lighting and prop placement along with the placement of your subjects. Your talents can turn an average backdrop into something amazing.

7. If you are looking to have softer shadows within your photos use a larger light source, such as a soft box.
