Get to Know Your Model
The best way to capture great shots of people, is to ensure they feel at ease. Before you start snapping the shutter, take a few minutes to find out how long your model has been in the business, what kind of hobbies he or she likes and what makes them smile. Taking time for a ten-minute-chat session will produce photos that look more relaxed and more natural. After getting to know each other, position your model in front of the backdrop and smile while you talk your model through the session.
Captures Dozens of Shots
One of the benefits of using a digital camera is that you don’t have to reload your film chamber. Be sure you have adequate storage space and just go crazy. Capture a variety of angles or ask your model to move around in front of the background for a wide variety of poses and shots.
Don’t Be Fixed in One Position
As long as you keep your camera focused on the model’s eyes, you and your model have flexibility to move around. Crouch, stand on a stool or ladder, shoot from an angle above, or laying on the floor. You can ask your model to twist, bend, stoop, sit or stand to capture different shots in front of the photography backdrops. Be creative. Stay focused on the eyes.
Use Makeup to Enhance Your Photos
Make-up can be a great tool to enhance the tone or mood in your photos. Give you model confidence, control shadows or create a sultry effect with studio makeup.
Engage a Stage Hand
Hiring an assistant or working with a volunteer to keep the action moving along can be extremely beneficial for the photographer. Models often appreciate the wardrobe and makeup help, too.
