Author's Description:
There are many benefits to softening photographic studio lighting including reduction in reflections, as well as hot spots. Softening your photographic studio lighting will also reduce shadows and with portraits, make the skin appear more appealing.
Studio Equipment:
Photographic Reflective Umbrella: There are two types of reflective umbrellas – white and silver. The white is softer, and both do not provide as much light spill as the shoot-through umbrella.
Photographic Shoot-Through Umbrella: Choose a larger umbrella to create a softer light effect. Use of this photographic equipment spills light in a wide range, and provides fill light.
Photographic Soft Box: Create very soft light using a larger box. The adjustments in the size of the box will create different lighting effects in terms of its softness.
The level of difficulty is considered moderate, so the use of a mentor or more experienced photographer for advice is never a bad idea for novices. You must experiment; you will yield different results. In addition to experimenting with this photographic studio equipment, try experimenting with the different photographic backdrops/backgrounds as well, such as seamless paper, muslin, and canvas…
